What is a Handwriting Assessment?
Understand what’s behind your child’s handwriting challenges — and how to help
This is a 45-minute, one-to-one assessment focused on understanding why your child may be finding handwriting difficult.
We don’t just look at the writing itself — we assess the underlying skills that support successful handwriting using a recognised standardised tool, alongside clinical observation.

What We Assess

We explore the physical and motor foundations that impact handwriting, including:
- Hand strength and endurance – can they grip and write comfortably?
- Fine motor coordination – how well do their hands and fingers work together?
- Posture and control – are they sitting with stability and confidence?
- Visual-motor integration – how well do their eyes and hands work together?
- Pencil control, speed, and formation – looking at neatness and legibility
Every child is different — we tailor the assessment to suit their age and needs.
What You’ll Receive
After the assessment, you’ll receive:
- A clear email summary with personalised recommendations
- Easy-to-follow advice to help improve handwriting at home and in school
- Suggestions for strategies, equipment, or practice activities
If you need a formal report for exam access (e.g. extra time), this can be added – additional fee charged
